We present for sale this Immaculate 997 3.8 targa 4S Coupe in stunning Carrara White with complimenting Black Leather interior. This particular example has covered just 25,000 miles from new and is in simply outstanding condition throughout.
The Porsche 997 was introduced in 2004 and was an evolution of the preceding 996 model which had been in production since 1996. The most significant changes were an external facelift which saw the return to the classic round 911 headlights, an internal re-styling and upgrading of materials and trim, and increased engine power.
The ‘S’ variant featured an engine size increase from 3.6 to 3.8 litres upping power to 355bhp along with PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) suspension. Wheel size was upped to 19inches which accommodated upgraded brakes from the 911 turbo. Bi-Xenon headlights were also fitted to the model as standard. The all-wheel drive Carrera 4 and 4S was available from late 2005 offering improved traction and grip.
Porsche’s 911 Targa concept dates back to 1967 and gets its name from the ‘Targa Florio’ road race in Sicily, Italy in which Porsche had several victories. The original concept was created to allow topless motoring which met strict US rollover safety regulations, and featured a removable roof panel and a rollover hoop behind the front seats.
This design stayed with the 911 until the end of 964 production in 1993. For the next variant of 911, the 993, the Targa concept was updated to feature a full panoramic glass roof section which opened at the press of a button, a feature which was then carried over to the first water cooled 911 the 996 Targa.
The 997 Targa was available in late 2006 as a 2007 model and was only available in all-wheel drive ‘Targa 4’ form. The glass roof system is operated by a switch on the centre console and drops the glass roof down 25 mm and slides it back underneath the rear window for instant open roof motoring. A retractable sunblind is also incorporated in the system to shade the interior as required.
When the glass roof is retracted, a small front deflector is raised above the windshield to aid aerodynamic stability and to reduce wind noise and buffeting inside the cabin and the Targa model features modified suspension to carry the additional weight of the roofing system without compromising the cars handling characteristics.
One other unique feature of the targa is the rear window which opens as a loading hatch via the extra release switch on the driver’s door sill or remote key. With the rear seats folded flat, this gives the targa even more practicality should the need to carry additional luggage arise.
DESCRIPTION:
