The 981 generation Boxster & Cayman arrived in 2012 and brought the model a step closer to its bigger brother, the 911. The car had a longer wheelbase, wider track and lower roof line than the previous model and offered more space, improved refinement and better handling.

Despite a reduction in size to 2.7 litres from the previous models 2.9, the engine (most importantly) remained true to the blood-line in the form of a flat 6 unit. Power was increased slightly to 271bhp whilst the 0 to 62mph acceleration time was reduced by 0.2 seconds. The new engine did however improve economy significantly with 37mpg being achievable if driven appropriately.

The exterior bodywork on this example presents beautifully as you would expect with no major marks to the paintwork and is set off by the immaculate 19’’ turbo II alloy wheels finished in bright silver and fitted with an excellent set of matching Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres.

Inside, the Black leather interior remains in immaculate, unmolested condition and shows no signs of wear or use. The electrically heated sports seats and leather sports steering wheel enhance the well-appointed interior which features brushed chrome trim and digital climate control. This Boxster has the factory extended leather package which features stitched leather trim to the door tops and dashboard to add a further touch of luxury and quality.

On the road, this 2.7 Boxster feels fresh, tight and responsive. The controls are light but precise and the handling positive and superbly well balanced. The 7 speed PDK transmission offers a smooth and relaxing drive even in heavy traffic, and yet offers a lightning quick response if required. The sports setting up’s the engine revs and throttle response should you feel the urge to drive the car as Porsche intended, and together with the steering mounted shift buttons turns this every day cruiser into a thoroughbred sports car accompanied by that glorious flat 6 howl from just behind the seats.

These ‘last of line’ normally aspirated flat 6 engine Boxster’s have virtually stopped depreciating since the next generation model, the 718 came with a 4 cylinder turbo charged power unit and will always be in demand making them a great long term purchase for any driving enthusiast.
