We present for sale this Immaculate, low mileage, manual 987 Boxster Spyder finished in the official launch colour of Carrara White with all the right options and specification. One of just 106 UK manual cars, this is a fine example of a true future classic.

Porsche Unveiled the Boxster Spyder at the 2009 Los Angeles motor show. It was to be a light weight stripped out version of the popular Boxster S with a touch more power for good measure.

Weight was saved by removing the conventional electric powered convertible roof and replacing it with a manually fitted lightweight 2 piece canvas hood and lightweight carbon shell sports seats replaced the standard heavy electric adjustable leather items.

Some internal equipment including the air-conditioning system, radio/PCM unit, instrument cluster cover, and interior door handles were deleted whilst the vehicles shell was lightened with aluminium doors and rear deck lid replacing the standard heavier steel items. Lightweight 19’’ Spyder alloy wheels were fitted to complete the weight reduction package. In total 80kg of weight was removed over the standard Boxster S.

Performance improvements included uprated, stiffer and lowered suspension whilst power from the 3.4 flat six engine was increased by 10bhp to 320bhp. The 6 speed manual transmission was fitted as standard though Porsche’s 7 speed PDK transmission was an option.

The ‘Spyder’ styling featured a twin hump large rear deck lid with a larger fixed spoiler, re-styled front bumper and satin silver engine and radiator intake surrounds. A lower body ‘Porsche script’ decal completed the look.

The 987 Boxster Spyder is a fairly rare sight as only around 240 Spyder’s came to the UK. This car is one of only 106 of these cars which were ordered with the 6 speed manual transmission which after the hype of the then new PDK automatic transmission on offer, now seems to be re-establishing itself as the ‘drivers favourite’.

The example we have here has been with the current owner for the last 8 years, and has been used as an occasional fair weather weekend car. Having covered just 19,000 miles the car is in immaculate cosmetic and mechanical condition. The bodywork looks show-room fresh with nothing more than the occasional tiny stone chip here and there to show for its 9 years. The alloy wheels have no nasty kerb rash and the canvas hood is stain and damage free, and fits like a glove.

It’s the same story inside the cabin with no major signs of wear to the seats, carpets, trim or controls. The front and rear storage compartments offer surprising practicality and also remain in ‘un-abused’ condition.

On the road, the car drives every bit as well as it looks and is smooth, powerful and accurate with an addictive sound-track thanks to the switchable sports exhaust which just completes the package perfectly.
