CSC offer for sale this beautifully presented mk5 Golf GTi Pirelli Edition in stunning Reflex Silver. This example is fairly rare being the 3 door variant and it is believed to be one of only around 70 cars produced with the DSG Dual Clutch transmission. This example also comes with a high specification including Xenon headlights and the Leather trimmed Multi-Function Steering wheel.

Back in 1983, Pirelli got together with Volkswagen to produce the original Golf GTi Pirelli which came with the distinctive and now iconic 14inch ‘P Slot’ alloy wheels, and a production run of 10,500 cars was sold out within 6 months.

Jump forwards 25 years and Pirelli once again joined forces with Volkswagen to launch a limited edition run of Golf GTi’s, this time to bring the mk5 GTi to a close with a much smaller production number of just 222 examples.

The 2008 version also got more than just a fancy set of alloy wheels. The Pirelli edition is based on the highly acclaimed GTi Edition 30 with the same uprated engine and suspension. Externally, there are subtle upgrades such as rear tinted privacy glass, colour coded sill and valence trims and of course, Pirelli design alloy wheels, this time in 18’’ form.

Internally, the difference is more obvious with distinctive ‘San remo’ Alcantara Pirelli tyre tread design inserts on the heated leather trimmed Sports Seats which also feature yellow stitching along with the Sports Steering Wheel and Gear lever Gaiter. Dual auto climate control came as standard along with touch screen navigation system and Bluetooth hands free.

This fantastic example is the rarer 3 door variant and was ordered with VW’s superb 6 speed dual clutch DSG Tiptronic transmission to maximise the performance of the cars uprated 2.0 TFSi engine. The Reflex Silver bodywork presents beautifully with no major marks and the Interior shows no major signs of wear for its 79,000 miles.

On the road, this GTi example feels tight and responsive as you would expect with light but accurate controls, and sure footed handling. The turbo charged engine delivers is power smoothly through the rev range whilst the DSG gearbox changes gears effortlessly and provides seem-less and smooth acceleration. Braking is also smooth but purposeful and reassuring.

The Volkswagen Golf has been seen as one of the best all round cars of the last 40 years, with the GTi seen as the class bench mark. The mk5 GTi was seen as a ‘return to form’ after the disappointingly plain and rather dull mk4. These Pirelli editions provide an opportunity to enjoy the very best of what the mk5 had to offer and being a low production model will always demand a place in the GTi hall of fame.
